What a difference vacation makes!

We went on a much needed family vacation for 10 days - first to Vermont and then to Boston. It was like having 2 vacations in one. We rested and played and ate and rested and ate.....and ate. What a great time. My oldest finally lost his first tooth and we went to our first major league game and saw the Boston Red Sox beat the Toronto Blue Jays. What a fantastic time and one I remember all of my life. My DH needed it more than anyone and I am so thankful he got to take the time off. Things move much slower in Vermont than Charlotte. I didn't realize it until I caught myself for the second day in a row asking my husband at dinner...."What is taking so long to get our drinks?"; "What is taking so long with our food?" What a nice change of pace. One of our counselors at church talked to me several months ago about finding rest in the Lord. I always have an agenda in my quiet time - how much to read, prayer list, etc. He suggested I just sit quietly and listen to God. I must admit, it's been hard. I have to pray out loud because my mind wanders too much when I pray to myself; imagine the difficulty in just sitting. Just sitting. Our pastor spoke a few weeks ago about how fast paced we are, always talking on the cell phone, checking emails. Patrick Morley writes in his book "Man in the Mirror" that we are designed to go at a turtles pace and we are thrown onto the race track. (Not exact quote, something like that). That's how I feel most days. I just want the roller coaster to slow down for a bit so I can gain perspective again. That's what vacation did for me. I pray our family carries it with us until the next time. "Come unto me and I will give you rest" Matthew 11:28
